A space crew goes to investigate a deadly incident on a moon of Saturn.
Synopsis:
A crew for the American NTI discover a collection of aliens kept by some alien biologists on the moon of Saturn called Titan. A creature breaks out of confinement and kills the US scientists. One is sent back to crash into the space station. More crew are sent out to investigate what happened.
The American crew of the Shenandoah quickly find dead bodies and soon are being chased out of a ship by the alien creature. One of their lot is killed and she comes back to coax her lover, Fennel, into coming out of the ship.
He gets killed and places a worm parasite into his brain to control him.
Klaus Kinski appears as a German astronaut named Hofner who was part of another crew who landed on Titan and whose crew got murdered.
Fennel calls the ship and tells them he’s in the German ship since Shenandoah had crash landed and is inoperable. Hofner (Kinski) and Bryce go to get air tanks and the rest of the crew go to visit Fennel who has a large bandage on his head to hide the parasite. Fennel walks with Oliver to check his wound. He leads her to the Alien who attacks and kills her with the help of the alien.
Davidson and Perkins realize that Fennel never sweated and go down to check on him. They find Oliver dead and kill Fennel.
Sladen runs into a parasite controlled Hofner who attacks her and chases her. Davidson and Perkins manage to kill Hofner by destroying his parasite. Sladen decides to kill the alien by electrocuting the alien creature. She sets up wiring and gets chased by the creature until it gets electrocuted by the grid.
Thinking the alien is dead, Sladen walks by the alien and gets attacked. She gets hung up alive as a decoy. Davison and Perkins realize Sladen is alive and try to capture her. Perkins finds explosives, Davidson finds Sladen and rescues her.
Perkins sets the bomb to explodes and gets attacked by the alien. Davison walks in on the alien eating Perkins and shoves it out, runs around and then tries to fight the alien in hand to hand combat. Finally Bryce appears and shoots the bomb causing it to explode, killing the alien.
Davison’s wounds are dressed by Sladen and he remarks that Bryce was gone a long time. Bryce replies that she got lost coming back to the ship. The trio go off in the German ship.
Review:
A low-budget sci-fi horror that really appeared in the sweet spot right between Alien and Aliens. It’s unfortunately not as good as Alien but it does have some roots in schlock sci-fi of the early 50’s. It ends up resulting in a movie that is acted like a soap opera and scenes that take their time to unfold.
The special effects in this film are not that great. The alien looks very much like a xenomorph, only fatter and leaning forward. The blood is bright red and all the corpses are a blue-grey color.
I would not recommend this film to most fans of horror or sci-fi as there’s not much to enjoy here unless the person is a big fan of older tv stars and Klaus Kinski.
